Arohanui Takangaroa Allen

Arohanui is a secondary trained teacher with a teaching career in r?maki and bilingual units within mainstream schools. Such experience has afforded her a sound working knowledge of culturally responsive practice. She has been a te reo M?ori and Business Studies teacher, head of department, leader of learning, K?hui Ako within school teacher, and Relationships First Coach. Her extensive work within the r?maki and bilingual spaces has reinforced for her the significant role p?r?kau and Kaupapa M?ori play in M?ori achieving educational success as M?ori. Through her work within K?hui � Communities of Learning she has gained experience and working knowledge of drivers and leavers that effect educational change, and accelerate educational success. As a Leader of Learning � R?maki, Aroha led her team through an inquiry process digging deep into student attendance and achievement in NCEA te reo M?ori exams. This process started her on her journey into another inquiry P?r?kau as Pedagogy. Both inquiries and their findings highlighted to Aroha the importance of reflective practice for effective pedagogy, and that there is never a problem that doesn�t have several possible solutions. Aroha has been a member of change agent teams, responsible for capability building, coaching and mentoring, supporting teacher in using voices Team to inform and support culturally responsive, agentic practice.
