Iwi anxious over fishing ban
Te Kahu o Taonui, a collective of Te Tai Tokeraui iwi chairs and CEOs (representing Te Aupōuri, Ngāti Kuri, Te Rarawa, Ngāti Kahu, NgāiTakoto, Ngāpuhi, Kahukuraariki, Whangaroa, Ngāti Wai and Ngāti Whatua ki Kaipara) has acknowledged the government's comprehensive ban on all non-essential fishing activities as part of its Covid-19 measures.

Coronavirus: Iwi checkpoints stop, move to random checks under level 3
Iwi checkpoints designed to protect vulnerable communities from coronavirus are changing focus under alert level 3. Tai Tokerau Border control, led by Hone Harawira, has been running checkpoints on the main roads in Northland since the country went into coronavirus lockdown under alert level 4. Last week, the checkpoints — run in association with local police — were busy turning around one in 10 drivers who were stopped.

Northland water storage gets another $37.5m from Provincial Growth Fund
More than 175 jobs are expected to be created during construction of water storage facilities in Northland for which $70 million has been provided through the Provincial Growth Fund. The balance of $37.5m from PGF was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters and Regional Economic Development Minister Shane Jones in Whangārei yesterday, together with the location of a new water storage site.
